Marilyn Lerner in concert with the Upstream Ensemble

Upstream Music hosts pianist Marilyn Lerner for a concert with the Upstream Ensemble of nine musicians. Artistic Director, Lukas Pearse will be playing bass with Marilyn and percussionist Doug Cameron to begin the evening. Following this intimate trio of performers there will be a gathering of the Upstream Ensemble for a sonic treat.

Genre defying pianist/improviser Marilyn Lerner performs to acclaim internationally, from her native Montreal to Havana, from Jerusalem to Amsterdam and the Ukraine.  Her groundbreaking recordings have garnered much recognition, including her 2 solo recordings Luminance and Romanian Fantasy and Special Angel with Sonny Greenwich.  Her intimate knowledge of the piano, combined with a fearless experimental and passionate spirit  render her a true original. Lerner’s work spans the worlds of jazz, creative improvisation, klezmer, and 20th century classical music. 

 Along with her innovative solo piano work, Lerner records and performs in her free jazz trio with drummer Lou Grassi and bassist Ken Filiano. She has toured with the Queen Mab Trio, and the Ig Henneman Sextet. Lerner has appeared with Tito Puente, Gerry Hemingway, Steve Lacy, and Sonny Greenwich. and in the New Jewish music scene, with Adrienne Cooper, Frank London, From Both Ends of the Earth, Alicia Svigals and David Wall.

She has two new jazz/improvised recordings coming out in 2016, Strange Attractors, the Ugly Beauties’ 2nd CD, and Lerner/Filiano/Grassi - Live at Edgefest, to be released on NoBusiness Records.
